Wireless local area network security system What about security for WLAN? Today wireless networks are anyhow equally invulnerable as wired. You only need to apply the proper tools and configurations.Physical security is the most all-important aspect of security.
In the event you don't possess physical access to the network, you can not use it. If you can't plug cable you won't have network. This is the situation in the wired word. The largest security system problem, in any type of wireless network, is lack of physical security.802.11 criteria apply Authentication as alternate for tangible security. Problem is that application uses WEP as encryption.WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy has never merited its name. It doesn't take more than two minutes, with cracking tools, to breach WEP.First WEP versions have used 64-bit shared key.
40 bits are for a shared secret and 24 bits are for IV (initialization vector). IV is used that receiver could decrypt the frame.Next improvement of first WEP key was 128-bit shared WEP key. With that WEP version 104 bits are used for shared key and 24 for initialization vector.IEEE proposed in 2004 new version of WEP - WEP2. It uses the same RC4 algorithm with 128-bit initialization vector. WEP2 has not improved significantly security.
It only increases time for cracking.Next step in wireless security is WPA - Wi-Fi Protected Access. What is WPA encryption? Wi-Fi Alliance launched in October 2003 Wi-Fi Protected Access - WPA, the next generation in WLAN security. Wi-Fi Protected Access doesn't need a computer hardware upgrade in 802.11 gear.Only software package and firmware upgrade is required and it makes minimal debasement in network performance.WPA was configured as an alternative all WEP failings. It uses Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) with Message Integrity Check (MIC). It also has mutual pre-shared key (PSK) authentication system utilizing 802.11X/EAP.WI-Fi Alliance launched WPA2 in September 2004. It's certified interoperable version of WPA.
WPA2 besides PSK 802.1X/EAP authentication, use advanced encryption mechanism. This fresh mechanism is Counter-Mode/CBC-MAC Protocol (CCMP) called Advanced Encryption Standard (AEP).WPA and WPA2 have 2 certification modes. Enterprise, & Personal: You have 4 different versions of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED devices: 1) WPA-Personal2) WPA2-Personal3) WPA-Enterprise4) WPA2-EnterprisePersonal Mode is configured for home and office (SOHO) environs. You don't need authentication server (Radius or IAS).It uses manually inserted PSK (pre-shared key or pass-phrase). Security level of your wireless network is founded on this particular PSK.therefore, use a mix of letters, numbers and non-alphanumeric characters. Personal mode utilizes methods of encryption as Enterprise-per-user, per-session, per-packet encryption along with TKIP (WEP) or AES (WEP2).Enterprise Mode works in managed mode with authentication servers (Radius or IAS). In addition to this mode you are able to meet rigorous prerequisites of enterprise security.nearly all of the access points and wireless routers have option of MAC filtering out.
With MAC filtering, you are able to restrict access to stations that you have entered in MAC filtering list. The main key to wireless security measures is to place as many obstructions as you can. If you simultaneously apply WEP, WPA, MAC filtering, and if you use IPsec tunnel and SSH then your wireless network is secure like it's wired.

SLA ex-member Sara Jane Olson back in jail, 5 days after release - San Francisco Chronicle
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(03-22) 16:47 PDT SACRAMENTO -- Sara Jane Olson, the former SLA member and Minnesota housewife who was released from prison Thursday, is back in prison today after the Department of Correction said it made a mistake calculating her sentence.
Olson, 61, was arrested at her family's home in Palmdale Friday night and placed in custody. She will return to the Central Women's Facility in Chowchilla for another year, officials said Saturday.
"The department is sensitive to the effects this has had. The department sincerely regrets the mistake," said Alberto Roldan, chief deputy general counsel for the Department of Corrections.
The sentencing error was brought to light when reporters questioned corrections officials last week, Roldan said. The error was apparently made in 2004, when administrators did not add an extra year to Olson's sentence for the Sacramento crime, Roldan said.
"She was completely cooperative" when she was arrested Friday, Roldan said.

Everything You Need To Know About Eastering Your Eggs - ConnieTalk
------------------------------------------------------------------
Since we're taking the day off tomorrow for Easter, we figured we'd take this time to give you all the information you need to know about Easter Eggs. Hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs, how long do you boil eggs, coloring Easter Eggs, dying eggs, yes we've been reading Google Trends today, etc., etc.
How to hard boil an egg: Place the raw, uncracked eggs in a nice, silver pot. Fill the pot with enough cold tap water to completely cover eggs with about 1 inch of water over them. Add plenty of salt to make the egg easy to peel later.
Bring to a rolling boil on high heat (very hot). Promptly cover the pot and turn off the heat (the retained heat in the water and pot will continue to gently cook the eggs without overcooking them and discoloring the yolks.
Dying and Coloring Easter Eggs: Your eggs have to be hard-boiled before you dye them. Otherwise...well, you should be the next Lucille Ball and get your own show. There are many ways to dye eggs and you can buy premade kits (please buy made in America, thanks!). But the traditional way to dye eggs is with white vinegar, cups, white hard-boiled eggs, paper towels, metal tongs, and liquid (or paste) food coloring.
Put out a cup or a bowl for each color, deep enough for some eggs to sit in. Have either an empty aper towel roll in sections - or just a regular egg carton out to dry the dyed eggs when you're done. Most grocery stores around this time of year sell egg crayons, so that you can draw on the eggs before dying them (the drawn part will resist the color from the wax). There are also stickers, transfers, and other decorations that can be applied to the eggs (before or after dying, depending on the decoration).
If you have dye tablets, stir them into a cup or bowl with one cup of hot water until the dye table has dissolved; then add 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Repeat this for each color. Once you have your cups of colors ready, apply any pre-dye decorations for the egg, and then place each egg caaaaaaaaaaaarefully into the bowls or cups using a tongs.
When finished, place the dyed eggs on either the empty cardboard paper towel roll sections (with real paper towels or rags underneath) or back into the egg cartons, in such a way that the egg is touching the object as little as possible, to maintain the consistency of the dye.
It will drip. Be ready for that.
Deviling an Egg: That's not a word, I don't think, but here are three great recipes for deviled eggs: Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs; Special Deviled Eggs; Spinach Deviled Eggs; Classic Deviled Eggs.
Interesting fact of the day: Did you know that a "virtual Easter Egg" actually refers to an intentionally hidden message in an object like a movie, book, CD, DVD, computer program video game, etc? Subliminal messages created for artistic touch - at any time of the year - are called Virtual Easter Eggs.

The FDA has issued a recall for all cantaloupes from a Honduran manufacturer as they believe the fruit may be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella outbreaks have been reported in 16 states. Those states are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
The melons are believed to have come from Agropecuaria and Montelibano. The United States government is seeking to ban all imports of the melons coming from those areas.
Grocers have been advised to pull the recalled melons off their shelves. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning are nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

Answering this question goes hand in hand with the one you are most likely wondering about - how do I go about refinancing my mortgage. Though individual factors may differ, following are a few times when refinancing might make sense.
If rates drop:
In general, when rates drop roughly one percent or more, refinancing your mortgage can save you money. Refinancing can lower your monthly payments, and, in certain cases, may waive mortgage insurance.
If you want extra cash:
Refinancing your mortgage may reduce your monthly payments, and free up some equity for other things. If you are seeking additional money, but a straight refinance isn't equitable, you may consider a Home Equity Line of Credit. This program lets you borrow against the equity in your home with a credit account, checking account and/or direct payment.
If you want to consolidate debts:
If you have equity in your home, you can consolidate all your debts into one payment by refinancing. Generally, your overall monthly payment can be significantly reduced plus, all the interest you pay on your mortgage is tax deductible (whereas interest on credit cards, car loans, student loans, etc. it is not). However, if interest rates have not dropped considerably, you may consider consolidating your debts with a home equity loan.
If you plan to stay in your home for a period of time:
The longer you plan to stay in your home, the more you can benefit from a lower interest rate. Refinancing may not be as beneficial if you plan to sell your home in the near future.
If you want to reduce the term of your mortgage:
Refinancing from say a 30-year loan to a 15 year loan means you will build equity and pay off your mortgage quicker. Though your monthly payments will be larger, you will save on the total interest (paid over the life of your loan) and generally, rates on shorter-term programs are lower.
When does refinancing not make sense?
Follow these tips to help avoid common refinancing pitfalls.
When your interest rate is not lowering much:
Generally, refinancing costs about 1.5 to 2 percent of the loan amount. So to be equitable, your interest rate must be bettered by about one percent or more (when paying full closing costs). There are no cost rates available where all of the closing costs are built into the rate. In these cases only a slight lowering of the rate is necessary for refinancing to make sense.
In order to remove Mortgage Insurance (on conventional loans):
Mortgage insurance can be dropped by refinancing. However, if rates have not dropped enough to make refinancing beneficial, there are other ways to drop the insurance. On conventional loans, mortgage insurance can usually be removed by requesting an appraisal. Seattle Mortgage requires that you have at least 25% equity in your home with the new appraisal to remove mortgage insurance, but each investor is different. If your loan is not serviced by Seattle Mortgage you must contact your servicer for their guidelines. Generally the cost of an appraisal is $350 which is much cheaper then refinancing.
To eliminate a borrower from title:
If you would like to remove a borrower from title, simply have the borrower complete a Quit Claim Deed. It is a very simple process and may be much more cost effective than refinancing. This does not remove such borrower's obligation to repay the loan. If you would like them removed from the obligation of the loan then you must refinance and qualify for the loan on your own merit.
